Bro Lazarus (Sam) Sharpe who was a top Major League Baseball prospect and collegiate pitcher at the University of Nebraska before joining the Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (more commonly known as the “CFRs”) in September of 2011.

In September of 2011, Br. Lazarus — formerly Sam Sharpe — 
joined the community for the Franciscan friars for the renewal, more commonly known as the CFR’s. 
As a high schooler, Sam was one of the most highly touted baseball players in the country. 
While playing ball for the Kansas City Sluggers (the same program that produced Albert Pujols 
and other major leaguers) Sam was ranked the 3rd best player in the state of Kansas by Baseball 
America for the 2006 major league baseball draft. Instead Sam elected to pitch as a University of 
Nebraska Cornhusker. While at Nebraska Sam had a profound experience of his own weakness 
and the Lord’s mercy and decided to transfer to the Franciscan University of Steubenville. 
It was at Steubenville that Sam really began to discern Christ’s word to “come and follow me.” 
Today Sam is known as Br. Lazarus of the CFR’s and he continues to answer Christ’s call each
and every day.

Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R. is a founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and has been active in teaching, preaching retreats and parish missions, and giving spiritual direction. In 1988, Fr. Apostoli was instrumental in helping found the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. He is the Vice-Postulator for the cause for the canonization of Archbishop Fulton Sheen and the author of numerous books, including What to Do When Jesus is HungryFatima for TodayFollowing Mary to Jesus: Our Lady as Mother, Teacher, and Advocate and Walk Humbly With Your God: Simple Steps to a Virtuous Life.

Father Andrew Apostoli, CFRis a member and co-founder of the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. He was ordained a priest by Bishop Fulton J. Sheen in 1967. He has been active in teaching, preaching retreats and parish missions, and in giving spiritual direction. He is an adjunct faculty member of Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, Yonkers, New York. In his community, he has served as Community Servant and Novice Director. He was instrumental in 1988 in helping to found the Community of the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. Currently, he is serving as a Vice-Postulator for the Cause of Canonization for Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

Father Andrew has been active over the years producing different TV series for EWTN. He has also been giving talks on various spiritual topics, many of which are available as videos, DVD’s, CD’s, and tapes. He has written 7 books and 3 pamphlets. They are listed below.
